Caring for your Gown

You spent time dreaming of, shopping for and selecting your beautiful wedding gown. It is likely that you will never own any other piece of clothing as symbolic as it. We'd like to give you some tips on preserving it as a keepsake or for your own daughter some day.

It goes without saying that the gown should be carefully cleaned by a reputable cleaner before it is stored. Be sure to point out any spills or stains that are on the material. Food and beverage stains that are invisible at first glance may yellow later on and even destroy the fabric or lace.  Ask the cleaner to pay special attention to the hemline and train that will have been soiled.

It is best to store your gown in a cool dry place- not in the attic or basement. If you do not choose to have it preserved and boxed, and choose instead to store it on hangers, be sure to sew on straps to the waistline to relieve pressure on the shoulders from the weight of the skirts. Stuff the sleeved with white tissue. Then wrap the entire garment in a protective sheet or muslin covering. Do not store it in a plastic bag.

Here at Bridal Collections we offer gown preservation services. Make sure to ask us about it!
